Clinical and Statistical Observation of Syphilis of ROKFV Soldiers

Abstract
At present the clinical syphilis patients are rare due to indiscriminate use of antibiotics. Reliable data on the incidence of V.D. in ROKFV soldiers is extremely scarce, up to now. The data obtained by VDRL test in Korea would contain false positive case.
The followings are results obtained from a survey for syphilis among the ROKFV soldiers by the serological test(VDRL, RPR, FTA) and personal interview.
1) The prevalence rate of VDRL slide flocculation test in ROKFV soldiers were 4.72%, RPR card test 3.21% and FTA-ABS teat 2.88%.
2) The biological false positive rate of VDRL test was 1.84%.
3) Age of 25¡­26(36.36%), S/SGT group(50%), unmarried category(77%) and middle school category(63.6%) in FTA test positive cases are at most.
4) Non combatants stationed in the area having many prostitutes and drivers category have high percent group positivity.
5) 100% of FTA test positive cases have had the contact with some prostitutes, 86.36% urethritis symptom, 47.74% syphilis sympton, 84.09% incomplete V.D. treatments and 27.27% preventive measures before or after sex contacts.
6.81% of FTA positive cases have some kinds of religion 36.3% present manifestations of syphilis.
